All this, and more too ! Camp Massad has a unique Hebrew-speaking atmosphere and a modern religious environment, under strict kashrut supervision of the Canadian Jewish Congress.
Cultural program
The camping season revolves around a central theme in Judaism which permeates all camp activities. Discussion groups, dramatics, arts and crafts, music, etc. all emphasize this central theme in a concrete relationship to Jewish values and the State of israel. Daily prayers are held in the sanctuary or outdoors, weather permitting. Instruction in their meaning adds a deeper dimension to praying.
Horseback riding
Competent riding instructors teach the campers how to ride our friendly horses. We now have our own modern riding stable and trails located on camp grounds.
Our fine ponies become excellent friends to our campers, especially with teh very young ones. Wagon rides are available to those who prefer it.
Arts and crafts
Much of our Arts and Crafts program is carried out in the open air. The art themes are chosen by the educational director and linked to the general camp theme, always concerned with Judaism. Painting and sculpting, wax and terracota work are taught in addition to instruction in ceramics, for which we possess a fine electric kiln.
Dancing and dramatics
Highly qualified instructors produce our well-known excellence in dramatics and dancing. Folk and other Israeli dances, and well-produced dramatic programs utilize the talents of every camper.
Grounds
We have 182 acres of beautiful meadows, playgrounds and woods, and a 2,200 foot-long lakefront with a sanded beach area. Our flower-beds and a small vegetable garden are tended partly by the campers themselves.
Scouting and tripping
Our campers explore the beautiful Muskoka woods and bush-country in canoes and by foot. They learn about the fauna and flora of the area, and how to get along with Nature. When the weather is favourable, overnight campsites are set up under professional guidance and supervision, and community living in the rrough is experienced - in Hebrew.
Cabins
The cabins of Camp Massad are newly constructed and are of the finest available. They all have built-in flush toilets with automatic ventilation, built-in bunk beds with drawers and adjacent shelves and closests, and drinking water. Each cabin has a fine vinyl flooring - easily washable, plywood-covered whitewashed walls, and screened and curtained sliding windows.
